Pow Wow Hawai’i 2012

POW WOW IS A GATHERING OF CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS THAT ENGAGES WITH THE BROADER COMMUNITY IN THE PROCESS AND CREATION OF ART.

From February 13 to 18, 2012, Honolulu will host over thirty artists from around the world. Opening and closing events will be held at Loft in Space, with the production of art being done all over the streets of Kaka’ako. During Pow Wow, the communityis encouraged to interact with visiting artists in a creative environment.

The beauty of art is most commonly enjoyed during its final stage. All the blood, sweat and tears happen behind closed doors. However, that is where the real grandeur lies. The process. Imagine for a moment a gathering of internationally renowned artists in one place. A place that will allow them to do what they do best: be creative. We give them the tools, the space and the freedom to paint for one week. We make that process open to the public, allowing them full engagement and interaction between the artists and their audience. They witness the creativity in its entirety and become an essential part of the artists’ process. It’s about the breaking down of those closed doors and making art accessible. Now take a step further and imagine transforming a whole neighborhood with art within a week. Seeing creativity happen all around you from beginning to end and bringing people together through art. The opening night of “POW WOW Hawai’i 2012” will take place on Saturday, January 18th, 2012 at Loft in Space from 6:00pmto 10:00pm. Before the opening night, the visiting artists will be painting all over the streets of Kaka’ako from January 13th to the 17th. Additionally, Eugene Kan of Hypebeast has curated a photography exhibition titled “Day Job?” and Arktip magazine has created a pop up shop. These events all open at the same time as POW WOW Hawai’i and are also held at Loft in Space

Fountain L.A.

I’m Trying to play catch up here. So Back in the end of September, Hugh Leeman and I drove down to LA to do a couple of pieces for Fountain LA. Being cheap motherfuckers we crashed on 2wenty’s floor for a few days. It was a fun couple of days and a great group of artists. Chor Boogie, Cryptik, Carly Ivan Garcia, and Ian Ross were all in attendance. As per my new M.O. we got out of there before the opening.

Indoor Mural Project – 941 Geary

I was fortunate enough to be invited to do a piece for 941 Geary’s “Indoor Mural Project” last month. This group of artists is amazing, Blek Le Rat, Chor Boogie, Apex, D Young V, Hugh Leeman, Casey Gray, Skinner, Augustine Kofie, Brett Amory, Hush, Damon Soule and more. Below are some pics of the piece, which is a self standing wall made out of newsboxes.

The doors are open to the public starting April 1st and will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 12-5 until the closing party on April 23rd, 6-9pm.

Warhol Reimagined – The New Factory

Warhol Reimagined – The New Factory presented by Warholian.com and Project one gallery.

For Warhol Reimagined we’ve asked some of the best talent in the art world today to come forward and rework some of Warhol’s classic imagery.
Our featured artists were given 20″x 26″ panels, and we’re asked to pick from a selection of over 60 of Warhol’s works. The works were chosen based on their importance in Warhol’s history as an artist and overall representational aesthetic. The artists have been asked to reinterpert the Warhol image they have selected into their own style.
Andy Warhol is best known for his Campbell’s soup can works that were first displayed at Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles in 1962. These works now hang in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. We’ve chosen to recreate the MOMA display by utilizing the talents of 32 well known and emerging artists – each reimagining a different can in their own light.
Warhol Reimagined: The New Factory is curated by Warholian.com and this will be their first ever art show for the newly established arts brand. Warholian exposes the “New Artist Movement” genre emerging in Los Angeles, New York, and namely San Francisco.

The show is being presented by Project One, an art gallery and lounge in the Design District of San Francisco. Project One gallery features 1200 sq feet of open gallery space with 20 foot ceilings. The gallery represents local, national and international artists, and focuses on contemporary art from artists they love.

Urban Osmosis at LoPo Gallery SF

Ken Harman at spoke art managed to put together yet another amazing group show. I got to show my work alongside an amazing array of talented artists. Kelly Towels, Gats, Ras Terms, Safety First, Nina, Dead Eyes, Cuss and Political Gridlock, Shark Toof, Chor Boogie, Eon75, Sfaustina, Hugh Leeman, Cryptik and of course D Young V. A decade with no name

fiftyseven-thirtythree and the East Bay Express are Proud to present 2 Major Art exhibits at this year’s “Best of the East Bay” Party. “A Decade will no name”, Bay area art from the first 10 years of a new century, and “If these walls could Talk” Live Aerosol art.

As the aughts come to a close and we approach the dawn of a new decade we are collectively faced yet again with a challenge we may have not even completed these last ten years. As the scope, breadth and reach of technology and information expand at exponential proportions with every passing day, their affects on one of the country’s most ethnically and culturally diverse areas cannot go unnoticed… especially amongst the state’s highest percentage of people per capita who list their occupation as “artist”.

A multi-disciplinary look into the works currently being created in our collective backyard, “The Decade With No Name” serves as a celebration of the sculptors, painters, photographers and street artists who call Oakland, Berkeley and the greater East Bay their home.

From the the three-dimensional monstrous cake sculptures of Scott Hove, to Brett Amory’s figurative paintings, Amanda Lopez’ Dia de los Muertos photographs, the politically and socially inspired street art of Eddie Colla, Monica Canilao’s found object installations and Emory Douglas’ historical Black Panther graphic agitation, this showcase serves as a veritable who’s-who of the East Bay’s emerging and established artist community.

Join us during the East Bay Express’ “Best of the East Bay” party, Friday, August 6th as we celebrate the arts in Oakland’s historic Jack London Square. With a massive gallery space located right across from the concert’s main stage, as well as a sixty foot-long wall of live aerosol murals by Bay Area legends Chor Boogie, Apex and Eon75 occurring during the event, this is one party, and an art show, that you’re not going to want to miss.
